Session(s) per class:

This class teaches the "Feather Stole", a pattern incorporating many traditional Shetland pattern elements arranged in a new way — a chance to knit a true ring shawl of your own, and great for any knitter looking for a challenge. This is an all-over lace stole with no rest rows. The body is worked bottom-up, then stitches are picked up along the edge for a lace border, finished with a single small sewn seam at the top. Over three sessions we'll cover the cast-on, build real fluency reading the different pattern elements, discover lifeline knitting as your safety net, learn how to fix mistakes with confidence, and uncover the secrets to blocking knitted lace beautifully.

Note: The recording of this class will be available to registered students for two weeks after the class session. If you do not wish to have access to the recording, use Coupon Code LIVECLASS at checkout for $15 off the price of the class.

Required Materials

  • The pattern uses 38g of 3000m/100g silk, available from many different producers. It can be knit using thicker yarn — we will discuss re-shaping the pattern. Please bring your desired lace weight yarn to the first class so we can compare options and knit samples.

  • 1.5mm circular needles, length 40 or 60cm, or circular needles needed for your yarn (we will talk about this in class)

  • One extra dp needle of the same thickness

  • Waste yarn for cast-on

  • Lifeline thread (fine, smooth, contrasting) — strongly recommended given no rest rows

  • Blocking wires or pins & a blocking mat or double bed

  • Featehr Stole pattern:  https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/feather-stole-2
