Getting Started Two at a Time

Socks, sleeves, mittens, wristers... anything you need two of, you can make two at a time. If you've struggled with second sock syndrome or petered out on the second half of a pair of anything, this class is for you. We'll practice various methods for casting on for two items, including methods suitable for top-down and toe-up socks, and we'll explore methods for yarn and needle management.

Class Information

Skill Level

Intermediate - Students should be able to knit, purl, increase, decrease, and work at a very small circumference in the round on either dpns, two circular needles, or one long circular needle.

Required Materials

  • One or two colors of smooth, sport, DK, or worsted-weight yarn wound off into in two equal balls of at least 30 yards each (working in two different colors is easier for most knitters when learning to work two-at-a-time)

  • Preferred style of needles in a size appropriate to your yarn suitable for working a small-circumference project in the round (two short circular needles, one long circular, or dpns that are at least 8” long) 

  • Scissors

  • Stitch markers.
