Anne-Sophie Chiarello-Bell
Anne-Sophie teaches knitting and fibre arts at Ballenberg (Switzerland's nationally acclaimed centre for craft) as well as online and through retreats and classes in Brienz, Basel and Bern.
Fibre arts have been a lifelong obsession, with knitting the favourite thread in her larger textile life. Textile crafts are a family tradition: her great-grandmother was known for her fine knitwork, and the family professions spanned weavers, tailors and even tight manufacturers. Anne-Sophie has been intensely fascinated by the knitting traditions of Shetland for over 20 years — drawn to the magic of lace that seems knitted from air, and to the rich visual power of colour work. She is equally captivated by couture, embroidery, tailoring and pattern making, finding each one endlessly interesting.
After years living in China, India and Australia, Anne-Sophie now makes her home in the Swiss Alps with her husband and daughter — where the mountains, predictably, keep finding their way into the work.
